Ever wondered why brides carry a bouquet? Why do we say “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water” or “it’s raining cats and dogs” or “bring home the bacon”? Why do we have canopy beds? Where did the word “thresh hold” come from? Why do we have a “wake”?
I got an e-mail the other day with the answer to these questions and I thought it was worth sharing with you all. So I added a page:
Interesting facts about 1500’s in England
Go here to find the answer to these questions! Enjoy!

I have added a new page about Quail birds which include three very short videos of them. However I really am not sure of their variety. I think they are California Quail but am not sure. So if you know, please inform me! Thank you!

I have added a new web page Family Tree Evidence.
I have been working on making sure I have the evidence in the trees that I am working on. Plus I have been asked how I know I have the right people. So I have attempted to explain how I get my evidence. I hope you find it useful.

I have just got in after an evening spent round a massive low bonfire with six foot long logs among others, burning. It kept us all lovely and warm on this chilly evening! At seven o’clock there were several hundred people there but by the end of the firework display at 8-15 there must have been over a thousand people. When I drove off cars were parked in the nearby streets and people were walking back along the roads to their vehicles as well as to all the cars parked in the car park.
Families were out in force. Children and some adults had dressed up for the occassion. There were fairies and animal costumes, a walking coffin and the best one I saw all evening, a headless man carrying his head!!
Hot chocolate was available. There were bags of candies for the youngsters and a haunted house to visit. Music played as we waited round the bonfire for the fireworks to begin.
They were worth waiting for. They lasted for a full fifteen minutes. Wonderful color bursts filed the air! Spectacular and brought forth a few oohhhs and aaahhhs!!!
